Nancy O'Dell's professional career started in Myrtle Beach South Carolina as an anchor and news reporter with WPDE-TV. Then she became a morning reporter and anchor for WCBD TV. The articles written by O'Dell in Charleston concerning how Charleston police acted in DUI cases with leniency led to an inquiry by State Law Enforcement Division. The investigation resulted a stricter directive for state authorities. Ms. O'Dell was awarded the Best Report of the Media Award South Carolina by the Associated Press. O'Dell later worked at the Miami-based NBC station WTVJ-TV as an investigative journalist prior to joining Access Hollywood in the role of weekend co-anchor. Her current position as host for Access Hollywood is complemented by the work she has done for NBC News Today, Dateline NBC as well as NBC News. She covered events such as The Oscars, The Emmys, The Grammys, and The Golden Globe Awards. As well as co-hosting the Pre Show Arrivals in preparation for The Emmys & The Golden Globes. Also, she co-hosted Miss USA's pageant, as well as the Miss Universe Pageant.
